Flashback time! I am so so sorry it took me this long to realize "Hey, shouldn't people know more about Rory. No really, like her family and stuff." Ugh ... embarassing. Anyways, her brother gives us the less than noble reason Rory wears the scarf ... because of a sibling fight.
Um ... she doesn't exactly want to divulge this is why she had no cautious brother to restrain her from just walking into an unfamiliar world that appeared in a field ...
FYI, my Gram had a very similar quilt at one point. A lot of this house is based on the one her and my Grampool have lived in for years.
